LMS at a glance The LMS is a social, independent, non-profit union of local and regional Lithuanian school-student organisations. The Union is a consultative member of European School Student Unions (OBESSU). A brief history At the Lithuanian School Student Conference 1996 the National School Student Council was founded. On 13-14th December 1998, at the 2nd Lithuanian School Student Conference it was decided to register the organisation with the Ministry of Justice of Lithuania by changing its name to the Lithuanian School Student Union (Lietuvos moksleiviu sajunga or LMS). On 18th May 1999, the Lithuanian School Student Union got its official status as a non-profit organisation. The LMS Aims are to:
The LMS Vision is to become a powerful, active, and well-known organisation uniting and representing public-spirited, independent school students from the social environment, each actively involved in public life, integral knowledge and economic societies. The LMS Mission is to represent school students by influencing the politics of education and youth, educating students on real-life problems, joining together in collective activity, co-operating with governmental and non-governmental institutions in creating the ideal school-student community. Activities Since its establishment, the Lithuanian School Student Union has undertaken an active work and has achieved some significant tasks. The projects have been directly related to schoolchildren and their problems. The Lithuanian School Student Union closely co-operates with the Ministry of Education and Science of Lithuania and other civic initiative-encouraging organisations also for the establishment of a modern democratic student environment in Lithuania. LMS has been uniting students into working together and solving common problems during the seminars, conferences and informal meetings. The Union has already organised many Lithuanian school student conferences and seminars in different parts of Lithuania as well as various other useful meetings. LMS has also arranged three large international conferences: Scandi-Baltic Project Conference , Baltic Contract Conference and A New Approach To Non-formal Learning And Distance Education conference.The Lithuanian School Student Union is an organisation warranting the school student right to express his/her opinion, and improve education by influencing the education authorities.
